在澎湖伯讲道集11册( 473 ) 《大肚教会八十周年感言》中，作者吕春长先生记述自己在大肚教会期间感受深刻，终生难以忘怀的十件大事时，题到『二二八』事件时的外省传道人刘湛庠先生。摘录如下：

在本会遇『二二八』事件，因曾保护外省传道人（刘湛庠先生）并送物资慰问纸厂外省人（他们被集中一处，禁止外出），以致遭流氓（矮仔银）辱骂欧打。
