舅父青年时期轶事（下）
关爱弟妹，深受爱戴
因为父母有重男轻女的旧思想，性格比较温和的次女刘凤金常会感受到父母给她的委屈。分东西的时候会少给她甚至不给她。遇到这样的场合，作为父母疼爱的长兄刘湛庠就对父母说，若小妹没有，他也情愿不要。因此父母只有妥协。这使小妹对长兄一直心怀感激，至老仍然常常提起。有一次刘湛庠看到小妹刘凤金大冷天光着脚，心生怜爱。用温水给她洗脚，末了又脱下自己的袜子给妹妹穿上。他的爱心使家人深深感动。
大弟刘瑞林与弟媳朱永彩的婚事，是刘湛庠一手帮助促成的。朱永彩有两个兄弟和四个姊妹，是迁居嘉兴的绍兴人。她家是一个人丁兴旺的农村大家庭。两家的结亲是因为有共同的基督信仰。
我的母亲刘春宝是刘湛庠的大妹妹，兄妹感情很深。在妹妹的心目中，哥哥是个伟人和近于完美的人，对他非常崇敬。她无数次的说过，她一生中最大的愿望就是再次见到哥哥。只要能够去台湾相见，她会不惜一切代价。我作为她的儿子，从小就知道哥哥的话对她有最大的影响力。我自己小学毕业时，父亲希望我放弃升学，回家种田。母亲坚决不同意。因为她哥哥曾经对她说，孩子读书好的话，就一定要尽一切力量让他读。所以即使家境十分艰困，在很少的学费书费也凑不齐的时候，她也会向老师争取暂缓缴费。
祷告很有力量
我父母的婚礼与二叔二婶的婚礼同日举行，两家且住在同一屋檐下。二叔强壮，二婶是童养媳，会种田养蚕。而母亲生于木匠之家，不会农活。在人看来，老大的家境比老二家要差许多。婚后两家产生不快，母亲倍感压抑，感觉受气。她告知哥哥刘湛庠。他经过恒切的祷告，告诉妹妹：老二家将会有难处，但仍然要善待他们。过了一段时间，二叔急病而死，不久他的儿子也死了，二婶转嫁他人。这些事的发生应验了刘湛庠的预告，完全出乎常人的预料。
有一次我祖父病重，自己感觉难以恢复，已经在考虑后事了。他是当地教会的长老，请长媳的哥哥刘湛庠去祷告。刘湛庠经过恒切的祷告，得着一节经文：『一宿虽然有哭泣，早晨便必欢呼。』（诗篇三十篇五节）于是他就高兴的对大家说：『不要紧，肯定会好的』。果然祖父很快的健康了（祖父八十八岁去世，无疾而终）。
我母亲结婚后很多年未能怀孕。直到一九四八年（婚后第九年）才怀孕。当时大陆和台湾之间已经很难来往了。怀孕四、五个月时，刘湛庠得知信息后写信给妹妹，肯定将生的孩子是个男孩，并赐一个名字叫『以撒』。那时没有B超，他说的如此肯定，完全是凭着信心，是来自祷告的圣灵启示。
