在澎湖伯講道集11冊( 473 ) 《大肚教會八十週年感言》中，作者呂春長先生記述自己在大肚教會期間感受深刻，終生難以忘懷的十件大事時，題到『二二八』事件時的外省傳道人劉湛庠先生。摘錄如下：

在本會遇『二二八』事件，因曾保護外省傳道人（劉湛庠先生）並送物資慰問紙廠外省人（他們被集中一處，禁止外出），以致遭流氓（矮仔銀）辱罵歐打。
