第三章 幾次危險神都保守了我
主啊，你救我的命，免了死亡，救我的眼，免了流淚，救我的腳，免了跌倒（詩一一六8）。
一九三一年農曆正月，我父母遠赴南平工作，我在家無人管束。有一夜晚，我在街上一間糕餅店的樓上觀看幾個人賭博。我坐在靠窗的樓板上，看到半夜，困了往後一靠，身體就由視窗仰跌下去。還好我的一隻腳被一個人按住，那時視窗正下方擺著一架玻璃櫥子。我如果跌下去，頭和臉一定插進玻璃櫥子裡，不知要被玻璃刮成什麼樣子！這是主保守了我。
這個月的另一個晚上，我跟著一群孩子，在馬路上看舞龍燈。舞龍的人舞到橋上，橋比路窄，我在旁邊跟著走。突然有人急叫我的名字，我收回右腳向下一看，才發現我的右腳如果踩下去整個人就要翻滾到橋下去，那我不死也會重傷。這是神又一次保守了我。
最危險的一次要算一九三四年的冬天。那天我的堂兄結婚，來了許多賓客，其中有一位同學帶了一支手槍，他們都坐在大廳左邊的書院裡。當時，我負責招待。當我的腳剛跨進書院的門檻時，那個帶槍的同學就走到我跟前，把槍栓一拉， 嚓一聲，對準我的心窩，喊道“某某人，我要打你”，接著就扣了一下扳機，槍沒有響。我知道他不是真打，所以也不懼怕，側了一下身子說：“不要開玩笑。”他繼續氣勢洶洶的把槍口朝下再扣了一下扳機，“砰”的一聲巨響，一顆子彈打到離我腳只有二吋的地上，屋子裡的人都大驚失色。這位同學自己也驚呆了。他原以為把槍的子彈匣拉開一點，子彈是不會上膛的。那知這次子彈竟上了膛。他第一次扣扳機的時候，槍如果響了，那麼這顆子彈就一定射進了我的胸膛，奪去我的性命。我能倖免于難，完全是神保守了我，我對神只有敬拜！這事發生於我得救的前一年。
